They held our hostages from '79-'80.

We helped overthrow a democratically elected government (that we claim everyone in that region should have) and helped install a brutal dictatorship that held the country hostage from '53-'79.

What's worse?

yeah but what if they DO have nukes?!

I also heard that they were holding Sadam's WMDs for him until he came back to get them when the coast was clear.

we're bound to be right one of these times, aren't we?

That would be the "A broken clock is right twice a day" school of foreign policy?

About the same thing has what happened in WWI and WWII. Study the history of just now WWI started and then the pause then WWII. WWII was not abput saving democrcy ;it was long standing econmy causes. I would say even if we didn't get involved militarily we would see worldwide depression caused by enrgy shotage alone.Remeber the 70's embargo;its resulted from only a 15% redcution in crude.Since you have the monsters of deamd i india and china increasing useage by 10% per year.Anyone wh thinks war are about ideaology is a fool;that is what makes allies when they occur.

A worst case analysis would have Iran threatening or actually nuking Riyadh, Tel Aviv and or Damascus in a near future. I don’t see why we should be so upset by having Iran take care of our enemies for us. Save us the trouble.

I believe they are developing a Nuclear Power Industry so they may sell valuable oil and natural gas instead of burning them for domestic electricity. There is a long a difficult way between 2% enriched uranium for fuel rods and 98% enriched for weapons. They really do not have an incentive to do so except to keep us off their backs. Now that they have the capability of destroying a US invasion fleet as it lands they do not need nuclear weapons to keep us out.
