Happens every duck season for my retriever.
The dog probably does not even know what it did was wrong, just acted on instinct.

Same argument could be made to justify the actions of rabid Progressives.

You know, I often wonder why dog ownership isn't regulated more strictly. Why in the heck don't they require new dog owners, when possible, to take a dogs 101 course teaching them the do's and don'ts of dog owner ship. I realize this is not possible for every case, but when they are adopted from a shelter, it should be required, or when before getting a license, they would have to provide a certificate of training.

No dog should be left alone with an infant. It doesn't matter how big or how small.

I have four dogs, one of whom happens to be a Siberian husky.
These dogs love everybody and I mean everybody. But, would I leave a baby or small child alone in a room with them for even a minute? No, I would not. They are dogs. They have strong prey drives. They are threatened by things I can only guess at.

These people brought four dogs into their home, clearly did not socialize them and then, actually put their child on the floor with the dog(s).
It was a tragedy waiting to happen.

Quoted for agreement.

I have a 12 year old female Labrador retriever whom I love very much and wouldn't hurt a fly. But despite the breed's reputation for their high pain tolerance and temperament, I would never leave her alone with a baby and unsupervised because you don't know how your dog would react around new family members and strangers nor how they would react to the dog.

I absolutely agree. There are instances of people sleeping with their infant and suffocating them by rolling over onto them. Just as stupid! Sometimes I wonder how so many babies reach adulthood with all of these idiotic adults in charge.

...but unfortunately, the adults in the house were void of parental instinct.

Yes the dog should be put down, please people don't confuse obedience with intelligence, dogs aren't dumb, they might lack obedience but they are not dumb.
I've trained lots of dogs mostly retrievers for duck hunting, I've had the meanest dogs growl and snarl but never bite, and I've had the nicest Goldens take a chunk out of my leg.

Never leave an infant alone with any dog, dogs are animals not people and should be treated as such, but that doesn't mean you have to be scared of any of dog, just respect what it can do. That goes for any animal you might keep as a pet.

The owner is to blame but the dog is damaged goods.

I think my son was 3 before I let the old Boxer meet him face to face and then I was standing inbetween them. It was a very slow process. You just can't take a chance and the dog that does the deed will be destroyed in most cases.
