eh.. i don't care for such a proposal, but it'd be better than our current tax law.

At 23 percent it is revenue neutral

B.S.

Even if true, which I don't believe, who cares?

No one is forcing you to rent. If you don't like it get out.

Everything I have read about the VAT is, YOU PAY WHEN YOU PURCHASE SOMETHING. RENTING IS NOT PURCHASING.

What a load of preposterous crap. You are purchasing a service, and only tax cheat scumbag lawyers could define their "service" as tax exempt.

A VAT without taxing do nothing paper shufflers is even worse than the garden variety.

Prosperity should never be taxed.... Period.

It is counter productive to punish people for making this nation function.

A usage tax is the only tax that is fair and constitutional.

Define excessive. Should you pay for your own roads? Tanks? Protection?

You say this in theory like all Ron Paulites. It sounds good and just, but it's just too simplistic and discounts the compounding advantage and disadvantages of power. In reality you would see a massive underclass with a few, mostly hereditary, overlords. The massive underclass would need to be appeased or supressed in some way or else the wealthy would live with the constant fear of violence.

Which brings me to my point: The lowest taxed country today is Mexico. You want the US to be Mexico?

Only on incomes from all sources over a 90th percentile deductable. I do not support sales and property taxes at all. VAT taxes are an abomination.

What a childish rant.

I don't think you know very much about what a VAT is.

There is no strict definition of a VAT. Its all up to the implementation of it. My post was in response to having the service exemption which is the very thing that is seen so often in sales taxes.
