Wow, talk about playing to the base, I think it would work, I really do. Rick Perry wanted to cut the Dept. of Education, I think he mentioned that before forgetting what else he wanted to cut.
But he was sure that the Dept. of Education had to go
What good is the "Department of Education?" What is it's purpose? Who does it help, and why?
What does it cost the taxpayers vs. any perceived benefit?

"Just say NO to the federal government controlling what we are allowed to do in our local schools."
This is what the left fears, giving the people freedom of choice, freedom to decide what to teach our own children in our own cities.
Why is it that the left thinks, if the federal government does not control or direct something, that it fails to exist??
"Hope and Change" was a complete failure. Please spare us from the additional agony.

You mean exactly like we already have? States are free to decide what should be taught and how students should be tested (one of the bigger flaws of NCLB).
The feds really only get involved when districts do particularly egregious things like trying to turn science class into fact-free religious indoctrination.
Schools are bad because people don't value education. Knocking education or educators isn't going to improve schools.
