Folks (even today with congressman John Lewis) charicatured (sp?) Booker as an Uncle Tom, somebody who pooed pooed AAs becoming doctors, engineers, etc. so that they would instead become maids and janitors.

What's interesting that the very values Booker preached was practiced by such groups as Jews, Chinese immigrants, Japanese immigrants, etc. on their way to upward mobility.
