"A Georgia Republican who wants all welfare reciepients subject to drug tests failed one himself after he ran a red light on Friday morning. The Atlanta Journal Constiution has the story on State Rep. Kip Smith (R):"
"Smith, whose given name is John Andrew Smith, first told the officer he had not consumed any alcoholic beverages.
“I asked him again, and he stated he had consumed a single beer at Hal’s. The report stated that Smith blew a .091., which is above the legal limit of .08."
I hope he gets jail time, just like I would like everyone who drives drunk to get jail time (though it's rare for a first offense in most states).
Whether he supported drug tests for those on welfare is irrelevant. That's a different issue. Good for him for sponsoring legislation to require it.
The guy is a hypocrite and a liar. What in the hell do drugs have to do with children being able to eat? Nothing more than a law targeting the poor when those making the laws aren't obeying them themselves.

If someone can afford to spend money on drugs but can't use that same money to buy food for their children, their priorities are backwards.

Drugs have as much to do with children eating as this guy's DUI has to do with children eating.
If someone can afford to spend money on drugs, they should use that money on feeding their children. Then maybe they wouldn't need to be as reliant on the government teat.
There should be a rule prohibiting welfare recipients from purchasing soft drinks or candy when they go to a movie since it's over priced.
They should be forced to always use coupons when they purchase food. Penalties would be applied to overweight welfare parents since they are eating to much and using up money that should be used for the children. Government needs to form a new department to oversee welfare parents to make sure they help their kids with homework.
Elected representatives make high-impact decisions and supposedly serve the people.
So, I want ALL of them to undergo yearly (random) drug testing so that we know our monies are not being wasted.
Anybody receiving money from the government (welfare, a paycheck...) should be required to pass random drug tests.
This jackass just failed one so he should be cut off.
