I guess you didn't get the memo.... They consider us infadels and believe we should be put to death. Doesn't change a thing that we "desecrate" their holy book. What are they gonna do? Kill us all twice?
Now that I got that out of my system from the ridiculous back and forth I've read in this thread, here are my two cents:
Replace the Koran with the Holy Bible - would that cause an uproar in the US? Or how about this - if Catholics or religious zealots were to do it and do the exact same thing, would that not also cause an uproar or would they be justified in their actions?
I think the idea here is that since the Pakistani's are of the mindset that it's THEIR book then they have the right to do what they want to it.
I dunno maybe I don't really understand the thread in general but that's my take on it.

Well that's all well and good if it were only the Pakistani's who were Muslim, but they represent approx. 10% of practicing Muslims so how come the rest of them, everywhere on the planet, aren't rioting and killing Pakistani's wherever they're found lurking?
The Danish cartoonist who had to go into hiding because he depicted Muhammad in a less than flattering light, Salmon Rushdie whose life is still risky even after the Fatwah has been withdrawn by an Imam; these are all examples of how Muslims are very selective in their respect for things of Islam.
Those of you attempting to equate this stuff to the amendment regarding the treatment of the flag are being deliberately obtuse and linking it to political party lines.

Thank you. I thought I was the only one confused.
Muslims in Islamic countries are known to burn the Bible. But, if they were to do it publicly in the US, how would Americans feel? Offended and angry but not to the point of killing people. But when you are dealing with third world countries, that are highly religious, highly uneducated and have a tribal mentality you are going to get a tribal reaction.
How do Americans feel when they see a country that hates the US burning and stomping on the American flag? That is an action based on the belief that Americans take great offense to that behavior, which many do. Burning a holy book is never a good thing and is meant to be offensive.
I'm sure that the soldiers in Afghan knew that burning the Koran would be a great insult - and look at the outcome. Fellow soldiers have been killled. In 6 days 30 people have lost their lives over a foolish act by soldiers that knew better. Where did they think they were and why they think it would be OK? They were in a militant Islamic country that functions with a very deep religious belief, has a tribal mentality and is uncivilized. How could they not realize that there would be repercussions from the locals?
Burning/descrating holy books and flags has one purpose - to offend.

It would be really better if you knew all the facts in the case.
You would just imprison them for what the Supreme Court has told you is free speech.
You don't seem to get it.
Had you been born in Afghanistan you would be one of these poor peasants protesting.
You're all alike. Only the Nation that you were born in has made you a little more civilized.
And your proceeding to tear down that gap real quick with your right wing authoritarian ideology.
Did you view the video proposed in the OP? It sounds like you may have failed to watch it.
