I thought the post was terrific, and spot on except for the very first sentence here.

I don't believe it is victimhood that has replaced shame. I believe it is moral relativism that has replaced shame. It's that idea that nobody has a right to judge anybody else's life choices.

Example, if I feel that it is the fault of the rich, or men, or whites that I don't have a good job, then I feel like a victim but still may feel bad about not having a job. But if I feel that being employed and unemployed are equally valid choices, then I have no incentive to find a job.

I've read articles that blame the illegitimacy rate in the black community on racism, while still taking the stance that illegitimacy is a problem that should be corrected. It's when you get into viewing single mothers as noble heroes that you start ignoring all the negative effects on society.

I actually have no problem with shame, people should feel more of it for their ridiculous behavior.

Very valid point. Perhaps I should have said "moral reletavism" instead of "victimhood."

Good post.

In my experience, shaming people has never stop behavior. The sh*t that is going on now has always been going on. It was just hidden better back then.

Everybody gets a trophy.

There was a time when a little public humiliation went a long way. Now people just don't care what anyone thinks of them, they have neither respect for themselves nor their loved ones and how their bad behavior reflects upon those around them.

Many on here do the same. They shame the person rather than the post. Very interesting!!

Seems people always want to talk about how it use to be, rather than expecting us to improve as we go forward. Instead of quoting from the New Testament they quote the Old Testament. Rather than looking at 2012 they want to look at the 1950's. Some people have a hard time getting along and moving in a positive manner.

Trashy. What did you think of Palin's out of wedlocks pregnancy??

Do you think Madonna is shamed to take on the Holy Mothers name as she makes videos of soft porn and talks filth in her truth or dare self degrading trash. Oh, how rich she got and people all wanted to go to her concerts. No shame for Americans whose idols are fallen. Look at the idols of people and it will tell much about the people.
This is true, but I have to say as I've grown older the people I once admired I can't hardly stand now. The music I once listened to some has changed. It's a growing thing. For some as Madonna not so much.........I don't think she even likes herself.
