It was supposed to be just anti-muslim law, but I guess they never heard of Jewish courts which are now illegal under the new law.

Senate panel rams through bill Muslims and Jews call discriminatory

Andrew Rosenkranz, regional director for the Anti Defamation League, said that the decisions of Jewish tribunals called Bet Dins, which often handle divorce proceedings, are often converted into civil divorce decrees by the courts. But under the Senate bill, and another ready for a vote by the entire House, an observant Orthodox couple would "effectively be barred from following their faith and using a Jewish tribunal to dissolve their marriage," he said.

Helps to read the text before slamming it.

I don't see anything discriminatory. It prevents judges from using foreign opinions, laws, etc. that run counter to the Florida and US Constitutions and that violates a person's natural rights. Are you against that?

Actually the poster has not read this bill, and obviously it is misunderstood.

The 5-2 vote by the Senate Criminal and Civil Justice Subcommittee approved legislation, SB 1360, that would ban any court or legal authority from using any sort of religious or foreign law as part of a legal decision or contract.

How is it misunderstood? The law puts an end to the Jewish courts. The Jewish courts have been around for a long time, and no one cared until the Republican big brother got the government to ban then.

they can still get their marriage dissolved, they just would also have to go to public court for the goverment to recognize the other side of it.

a catholic has to have their marriage renounced for the church to recognize it, same thing here.

Liberals can't help but trip all over themselves and their so-called principles when Muslims are involved.

So it's a law that reaffirms the separation of church and state. How awful!

Personally I don't think government should have anything to do with marriage. If two people want to form a union ,they can incorporate or form a legal partnership like sane people do. If they want to get married, keep it in the church and out of my pocket.
