Illinois state on brink of collapse - FT.com

Quote:
Governor Pat Quinn says the state needs to face its “rendezvous with reality” and tackle its dysfunctional budget habits. Top of the list, Mr Quinn says, is to slash spending on Medicaid, a federal programme that provides healthcare to poor Americans.

To stem the growing shortfall in its public pension funds, Illinois pledged to pay its full pension obligations – $5.2bn next year – without borrowing, something budget watchdog groups have long urged it to do.
Wow! So they are going to deny children medicine in order to fund their gold-bricking union pensions.

But some how it is the GOP that is evil.

Actually, Rahm Emanuel is putting a lot of heat on the Chicago unions...it's just not getting the press nationally because of the whole Walker thing going on in Wisconsin. As we seem in recent history, to really put the hurt on a union it actually needs to be done by a democrat because that fractures opposition.

The super-generous pensions promised to government employees are simply not feasible. Businesses had no problem simply dumping all their vested pensions with a simple "change of control" (originally meant for restructuring in bankruptcy), and government had no problem with that. So what's good for the goose is good for the gander: since my vested pension was voided perfectly legally, I now won't have money to afford the super-sized pensions of gov't employees--who worked 1/2 the hours I did, and got paid better too.

"Here's something you don't see in Democrat controlled America media -- Illinois state ‘on brink of collapse’"

Anyone who would make such a foolish-sounding statement must live in a cave. The financial woes of Illinois have been thoroughly reported. Locally and nationally. Even here, in the deep blue state of Illinois.

Yeah, the OP's thread title is garbage.

I've been hearing about IL budget woes for a decade via the mainstream media.

Heck, a 10 second google search....oh, why bother...this is the making up facts forum.

Is it the OP who made up the facts? Somehow I thought I saw a link to some published article right there in the OP.

the State is not broke. It just does not want to tax the people with money to help people without money.

They just moved the G8 summit out of chicago too due to concerns of the lunatic anarchists. Yet another hit for the economy there. Illinois is a mess. Thats what happens when you put democrats in charge for so long. Let em wallow in their own making as far as I'm concerned.
