I guess that's your right, but I'd find it strange. Do you take that same attitude in your own neighborhood, simply ignoring people you've never seen there before?
If someone says hi or how's it going, I'll respond, but if you are asking me about my business, I'm ignoring you. If you ask me twice I'm going to tell you to eff off. No way I'm goin to explain myself to a wannabe cop.

Once back in 95 I think I walked into Lou's Chicken & Ribs and the guy behind the counter scowled at me.
A black family walked in behind me and he was nice to them.
Could it be that your demeanor put him off? I've never met you in person, have no idea what race or ethnic group you belong to, yet I get an extremely hostile and angry vibe from you. I can imagine what it's like in person for someone standing behind a counter. Not everything is racism, deal with it
Where are you guys reading this from? The video I watched said the murdered kid had tea and skittles and that the shooter admitted to shooting the kid and has since left the townhome where he lived.
fitzy, I believe it was towards the end of the video. They mentioned that the shooter was a college student studying criminal justice. It made me wonder if that was why the police let him go??
A rational person calls the police and lets them do their job. Most sane people have no desire to act out their wannabe action hero fantasies.
It has nothing to do with acting out any hero fantasy, it's about simple courtesy, awareness, & common sense, and most often doesn't require the police. I know that most strangers in my neighborhood are going to be there to see someone. If they don't go right to the house they want, it's usually because they aren't sure where they need to go, or can't find the address. Two weeks ago, I came home & saw some woman walking across a couple of lawns, then around behind my neighbors house. I waited for her to come back (knowing she would as her car was parked in front of MY house) and POLITELY asked her what she was looking for, and whether I could help. She explained that she was taking pictures for an insurance claim from recent storm damage, and that was the end of that.
If you approach someone and demand that they answer your questions and you are not a police officer, you are acting in a threatening manner.
If I approach some stranger walking through my neighborhood, peering at the doors of every house they walk past, and I say to them "Hi, can I help you find something?" I am not acting in a threatening manner.
Sad that they keep bringing race up. How did you expect the guy to react? Stats show us you're around 7 times more likely to get assaulted by a black person than a white person.
Kinda like walking down the street and you see a loose dalmation on one side of the road and a pit bull on the other. Which route do you take?
Tragic situation for this boy's family. I'm sorry we are conditioned to react this way, but we are.
Me personally? I would take the side with the pittie. But then again I don't trust ANYTHING with spots. Not leopards, not dogs, not even people, NOTHING! Well, that and I always keep puppy treats in my purse (don't ask!), for situations like that.
Anyway, my thoughts go out to the poor boys family in their time of grief.

IMO, they let him go for two reasons.
The victim was black, the same reason the guy confronted him to begin with.
The only witness that can dispute the shooter's claim of self defense is dead.
You can tell just from the posts in this thread that no matter what the facts are, a lot of people are automatically going to assume that a black kid must have done something to make the white guy shoot him.
