These are the services we get in exchange for our premiums we pay that may otherwise never benefit us if we don't get sick or in an accident. It also PREVENTS problems that cost insurance companies much more. It wasn't Obama that discovered that btw.
When the heck was aspirin EVER covered before obamacare ?
I'm paying the premium under a family plan.
And why should I take him off ? He can't afford insurance with the money he makes.
My premium has gone up 20% for the past 2 years.
The first time it was specifically because of this change to dependents (early obamacare kick in). United Healthcare sent a letter to that effect..they had to expand the pool of money due to expanded coverage.
The second year I got no letter. But I can see now that the "no copay" services have to be paid.
I was being sarcastic about your son. I think you should do what works best for him. We put our daughter back on our plan after the law changed. Your son is insured, and probably not using the ins. too much.

I think one of the best things this did was make a provision for the young, uninsured. In fact, just BECAUSE of the sucky economy. We have all seen the stats of college graduates (age 22-23) unable to find a job. They get sick too. My coworker's daughter was diagnosed with melanoma six months after graduating from college.
Many college grads today are getting out and only getting part time work, if any at all. Part time employers generally haven't even been extending health insurance to employees, so it can be a little scary (more so for the parents I think). My health plan drops kids at 21 (I thought it was 22 the other day but realized it's actually 21.). My daughter turns 21 in July so I'm pretty happy this got extended.
As for premiums, our increases have remained in the 7-11% range over the last few years (I also have United Healthcare but it is backed by a self-insured employer) so that might make a difference. My coworkers do use the Federal insurance and the increases haven't been at 20%. My last big increase was in 2006 when I was administering BC/BS for a small company and we had a 17% increase that year.
I'm sure these new provisions will increase premiums, I just haven't seen it on MY end across the board. I guess I'm okay with that for the increased coverage. I can understand why someone else wouldn't be though.
And it seems they've lowered the penalty for not having insurance to $95 the first year.
Can't beat that can you ? Then it rises and is capped at $695. Can you get health insurance for less than $695 per year ? Why shouldn't I go uninsured and pay the fine and then just get insurance if I get sick ? Is there something in the healthcare bill that will prevent that ?
Try and fine me for not having insurance, see how far that goes. I'd take that crap to the top.

Posts don't always come across as they should on the internet.
I didn't see the sarcasm but now I do since you mentioned it.

Well besides that. Is that a valid scenario I described ? If so then why won't more see that and do it as well ?
$695 a year is cheaper than insurance premiums.
And you can still get insurance if you get sick..they cannot turn you down.
Isn't that why we have insurance now..because you'd be turned down for any pre-existing conditions.

Ah, so you are one of those leaching parasites on the rest of us who go running and screaming to some hospital and plead poor, poor me, when the bill comes leaving the rest of us to pick up the slack?
Yeah, freedom is a wonderful thing, especially when YOU don't have to pay for it.

I think it should be like auto insurance (where the government mandates you have it if you register a vehicle). If you don't get it, do NOT come to the hospital without cash in hand. No insurance or no means to pay for treatment, shut the door in their face. Period. Of course, that will never happen.
All the vices cost money in the health care system. VD,HIV, smoking, drinking , drugs ,and depression . Seems liberal living can cost a fortune to keep the loose living progressives healthy.
