Getting off government assistance - Public assistance leads to college degree (1) - CNNMoney

Getting off government assistance

I started receiving aid in 2000. I was single and wasn't making the best decisions. I ended up getting pregnant and had to figure out a plan to make ends meet long-term.

I know people with college degrees who earn minimum wage. How does that get you off public assistance if you have a kid?

And what's with her Section 8? Does TANF automatically qualify you for a Section 8 voucher? I know people who have been on the Section 8 waiting list for YEARS and others who can't even get ON the waiting list.

Section 8 depends on your State/County. Some have waiting lists that are years long, some can place you immediately. I believe that certain situations also get priority (domestic violence, etc)

Once our country collapses from too much debt I believe alot of people will be getting off public assistance. And not by any choice of their own. Should be interesting.
