Norway mass-shooting trial reopens debate on violent video games - CNN.com

Quote:
The confessed shooter also said he once played the online game "World of Warcraft," a role-playing adventure with multiple players from around the world, for as many as 16 hours a day.

For people who have long suspected that there is some link between violent video games and real-world violence, the statement offered frightening new evidence for why the video-game industry should be more strictly regulated.

Many gamers and columnists, however, rolled their eyes and collectively muttered "here we go again."
Thoughts?

The 'normal, decent' people would be outraged if they could not play violent video games.

No, it doesn't open it back up, it let's uninformed and/or stupid people try to change things they can't.

I do not believe addicted gamers remain unaffected by their violent training games. First they become addicted to the adrenaline produced by the violence and that leads to the reduction of their opponents to things to be killed. The scoring system reinforces this addiction. The addiction to this natural stimulant is almost impossible to overcome and can effect a person’s judgment for years.

I am undecided about these games. I do not believe they should be sold or used by teens. Teenage kids, especially males, are already screwed up by hormones and training them to violence seems to me to be not the greatest idea ever.

Is there any evidence whatsoever that World of Warcraft or Call of Duty actually motivated the shooting? Nope. End of story.

Even the Norwegians who reflexively hate immigration have the basic intelligence to not "open debate" when it would put them on the same side as a crazed mass-murderer.
