In Depth with Randall Kennedy - C-SPAN Video Library
Randall Kennedy is a Harvard law professor. I watched most of this 3 hour interview on Sat morning while jogging on the treadmill, lifting weights, and doing situps. It was so good I figured I would post it. It made me want to go out and buy his books. It's a long slog but I suggest watching it while working out or similar.
What a careful thinker he is! His mind is one of those that takes a topic, breaks it down into constituent parts, rotates each part in his mind looking from every angle, then puts it all back together. If you watch the interview, you'll note that he shows a great capacity to change his mind, something that is lacking in many of us.
I wonder if Pres. Obama ever was his student at Harvard. I checked, and Kennedy started his teaching career in 1984, and Obama entered Harvard Law School in 1988, so it seems likely. Prof. Kennedy doesn't say either way in the interview.
Especially poignant to me is where he talks about the changes in race relations between his parents era (he was born in 1954) and now. The Baby Boomers (my generation) get a lot of well deserved slings & arrows. We did a lot of things wrong, but I do think my generation will get good reviews from history in making progress towards MLK's dream.
