Italian cab drivers would start discussions with us on US diplomacy. How many Americans even know who heads up Italy or any other European country? We're self-centered and self-obsessed. We think we're the end all and be all. Europeans take the universal view. Yes, they're more well-rounded and typically smarter than the average American and waaaay smarter than the toothless Mississippi/Alabama peoples who can't even accept a black American as president.

Don't take that line of reasoning too far. Cab drivers are notoriously savvy most anywhere you go. And Europeans know more about America because America is -- at least as foreign policy is concerned -- the most important country. I mean, does the world really worry about where Italy is going to throw its strategic power?

And as long as we're going to bring Mississippi into the discussion, keep in mind that European academics are waaaaay more obsessed with Faulkner than most Americans, who moved on from him decades ago. Either the Europeans know something about Mississippi than you don't, or they're hopelessly behind the curve, litero-philosophically (a term I just made up ), ignorant American that I am...

Why are Europeans typically smarter and more well rounded?

They are not. I've traveled extensively in Europe and don't think they are more well rounded nor are they smarter. Maybe what you are really saying is that you find that you agree with their social positions more than you agree with Americans. But that's not "smarter and more well rounded".

I've had a lot of very intelligent conversations with cab drivers in the USA. YOU many be self-centered and self-obsessed, but don't project that onto the rest of us. And your bigotry is quite evident. Maybe I should remind you that a lot of rocket scientists and other very smart people live in Alabama.

Your comparison about knowing who heads up Italy is silly. The GDP of Italy is about the same as California. Obviously, people all over the world will know much more about the USA than Italy due to the huge difference in size and global influence.

Yep, and they probably hailed from foreign soil.

Maybe in Texas but hardly in NYC or any other major city. And who would take a Texan's opinion as gospel?
