[quote=Yeledaf;1510391]The commander of forces in Iraq is sworn by law to carry out the orders of the Commander in Chief. This does not make him a "lap dog."
QUOTE]

The commander of forces also has a responsibility to take care of his troops. Any of the previous commanders that tried to raise their voice at the absurdity of the current situation and do the right thing were removed by the administration, despite Bush's claims to listen to his commanders on the ground. Our Decider has shown himself to be selective in his listening.

So in other words, your mantra is identical to MoveOn.org, and Petraeus is a traitor. Nice.

BS. Don't try to stick words in my wouth. Petraeus said the surge has shown some limited regional improvements, and violence is down now "only" to the levels it was a couple years ago. He also said he had no idea when or if Iraq would ever be stabilized to the extent it can operate independently. He also said he did not know if a stable Iraq meant the terror threat to the US would be diminshed or eliminated. I'll take him at his word.

And Bush and his few supporters take all this in as "good" news. Bush also mentions he is bringing some troops back home. What he does not mention is those troops were due to come home anyway, and we don't have the bodies to replace them even if we wanted to. The military machine has ground up all the units we have, don't got no more. And I don't think a draft is an option.

So who the hell said Petraues is a traitor? What the hell does that even mean? Pathetic attempts to avoid facing the issues by name calling.

Why, MoveOn.org said it, in effect. And they ARE pathetic.

We agree.

Whatever. Don't know 'em, don't care about 'em. A non issue. They want to put an ad in the paper, it's their dime.

That does not mean that anybody questioning the wisdom of the strategy of this War should be labelled a traitor. That is asinine and ridiculous, especially in light of the fact they have basically come out and said they know the political process is not working, but have no plan at all other than to continue until spring, hoping that the Iraqis after 5 years will suddenly start getting their act together. That is a helluva plan.

Did anyone read the ad in the New York Times? I don't read the rag...

Read the CNN article about the ad at: New York Times: "General Petraeus or General Betray us?"
It is sad to see. Petraeus was an Honorable Soldier who served all of us extremely well. He made a bad mistake and further demonstrated his Honor by resigning his position in the CIA. He knew full well the potential for risk if he stayed. Piling on him is the exact opposite of what we should be doing. However, I have no idea what your link is attempting to say.

He lied to the Russians just to get on down the road. For him, it was what he would say to anyone on an issue we doesn't want to deal with.
