Actually, a perfect example of how people who go looking for trouble usually find it.
It was Chamberlain, you may remember, who made a treaty with Poland and declared war on Germany--and no, that wasn't a good idea at all.
The USA was not "the" aggressor, there was not one single person or nation you can point to and call "the" aggressor. But FDR was certainly the aggressor vis-Ã -vis the 400,000 Americans who never came home because he broke his campaign promise to stay out of the war.
Yeah, the same Chamberlin that was giving in to Hitler in Eastern Europe.
AGGRESSORS??? How about Hitler, Germany, Mussolini, Italy, Hirohito and Japan. Hitler took whatever he wanted early on, Mussolini took big chunks of Africa and Japan was busy taking much of China and the far east.
Campaign promise??? Did that involve staying out even if we were drawn into war?

Yes, as were we in the Phillipines and Hawaii, Britain in India and Africa, France in Indochina and Algeria, the Netherlands in Indonesia, and that's without troubling even to bring up the USSR. China was not an aggressor per se, but the Chinese were butchering each other for decades in a manner just as brutal as anything the Japanese did.

"I have said this before, but I shall say it again and again and again: Your boys are not going to be sent into any foreign wars." --30 October 1940
He did say it "again and again and again", but he worked behind the scenes for every way to make sure we would be "drawn in."

FDR didn't put us into Phillipines and Hawaii, that would be the results of the aggressive exploits of Republican president. McKinley is the one that used a slave revolt in Cuba and a questionable "mining" of the Maine (some claim it was a self inflicted wound to start the war) to expand into the south pacific. Hawaii? Republicans overthrowing the queen and claiming the islands as theirs because of the wishes wealthy American businessmen.
Contrast mckinley's response in 1898 to FDR's response to the Spanish Civil War. While many wanted us to take up arms, FDR didn't join in even when american citizens went on their own.
So, to review, in the past quarter century, republicans have been responsible for all 3 wars the US has initiated. And they're now looking to start a fourth.
Maybe that's why.
Just a guess, mind you.
All 3 wars had majority Democrat support too. Guess you "forgot" that part in your rush to blame Republicans.
Seems to be typical, though. Everything was Bush's fault even when Pelosi and Reid ran Congress. Then Obama gets in and now it's not the President's fault anymore, now it's the obstructionist Republicans in the House who are to blame for everything.

Yes, but I'm not anywhere defending McKinley, I'm damning FDR.

Yes, after having done everything but pissed on the Japanese flag on the White House lawn.
Again, people who go looking for trouble usually find it, from John the Baptist to George Zimmerman.
