Ah but the teachers ARE teaching. And teachers DO KNOW that the best time to influence a person for the rest of their life is when they are young.

While teachers do know this, it's those lone individuals that go to this type of extreme.

But teachers do know that the kids CAN be influenced for life while in school.

The a-hole teacher said he didn't REALLY want them to send it to the Obama campaign. Nooooooo, he just wanted them to find out the name of the office that would receive such information.

It's heartwarming to see right wingers expressing their fear of middle school kids.

Give me a break, if this was pro GOP teacher having them research the faults of Obama you wouldn't agree with it.

There is plenty of ways to teach both these skills without injecting politics into it. Politics do not belong in the public classroom, period. They should be teaching them how our government works, perhaps go over the different parties but once you cross the line into ideology of those parties the teacher should be immediately fired.

That you could discern.

Yeah..when you tell them what to do they are not thinking. There's no "critical thinking" going on here. The teacher TOLD them what to do.

Critical thinking is what happens when you are given an open-ended problem to solve.
"Find the faults of the GOP and tell the Dem party" is not open-ended and doesn't involve critical thinking.

I had teachers like that too, i never knew their politics. I also had teachers who poured their politics and ideology down our throats, and only their opinions were correct.

I actually think an assignment to find the weaknesses of candidates and state how you would address it if you were running an opponent's campaign is not a bad class exercise. It goes really bad when Obama is not included and the students have to look up to whom they would send their research in the Obama Camp. Then it's a mission and it's way out of line. The teacher should be suspended.
