Bill Maher is the only reason to have HBO, his show is usually excellent, his "New Rules" are hilarious, will watch the clip later tonight.

I had someone who i was discussing Healthcare with say that I was "reading out of my Alinski playbook" I had no f'n clue who Alinski was so I asked. He told me that Alinski was a radicle in Chicago that hated America and wanted to see a communist take over.

I took it upon myself to see if in fact i was reading out of his playbook so I read rules for Radicals. I consider myself conservative in nature but liberal in my political leanings.....I thought the book was interesting in teaching how power of numbers can out do the power of money...It was a message in democracy and liberty....

This is all we need to know

"Biographer Sanford Horwitt has claimed that U.S. President Barack Obama was influenced by Alinsky and followed in his footsteps as a Chicago-based community organizer. Horwitt furthermore has asserted that Barack Obama's 2008 presidential campaign was influenced by Alinsky's teachings".[19]

PS- You are far from being conservative

I am conservative in the way I live my life. You do not know me from Adam so ill let that last comment slide. From a political position I am liberal.

If I were going to work in a community where getting its residents more included in civic affairs was a priority, I would use that book to gleam certain points from. That is usually what differentiates intelligent people form others. They are willing to learn LOTS of things, critically think about those things, and then apply what they feel fits the certain situation best based on their knowledge. .

Alinsky = right wing code for "I got nothing." When somebody starts whining about "Alinsky tactics," or the "Alinsky playbook," imagine a six year old throwing a temper tantrum because his mom wouldn't buy him some M&Ms from the checkout line at the supermarket.

We just haven't heard much about ol' Saul since Gingrich won SC. That momentary RWNJ rant has been replaced by anger and loathing towards contraception. And now that's taking a back seat to the court challenge to the Affordable Healthcare Act. The wingnuts have a very long list of things to fear and hate.

We actually had a copy of "Rules for Radicals" up in the upper loft of my grandparents' house, it might have been my uncle's from college or something. I tried reading a few pages when I was 14 and found it to be--as Mark Twain said of the Book of Mormon--like "chloroform in print."

Alinsky's name is just a snarl word thrown out by conservatives to demonize an opponent and have an escape hatch out of the situation. Just a new word on the list of calling Liberals Fascists, Socialist, Commie, Elitist, Misogynistic, Feminist, Atheist, global warming religious nut. It says more about the person screaming those terms, because only an idiot would attempt to shoe horn them as synonyms...and a number are mutually exclusive.

Which is funny when you saw the booklet by Tea Partier Michael Patrick Leahy called Rules for Conservative Radicals...which was Alinsky's book without some of the more "amoral" suggestions and updated for new social media techniques.
