My experience with people of mixed heritage, including some of my cousins, is they generally identify with those people they look like. I believe mr obama simply identifies with blacks more because he looks black. While there is no such thing as a "pure" race people still tend to stick with those who look like themselves. Call it human nature.
Just use the "paper bag" test to determine what bucket you fall into.
White??? Every black person I know say they are part Indian lol... Never heard white people obsessing about it!
You can't swing a dead cat around here without hitting some blond blue eyed white who thinks he/she is a cherokee indian. Fact is many whites probably do have "some" indian ancestor. I believe almost all of our native americans have some white ancestry. It's pretty much the same with many of our black citizens. The races have been mixing here in the new world for some 500 years. Strangely, we still have race problems. It's a damn shame.
What's really sad to me here is that a lot of people are so focused on race. It's really sad. Children that are black and white deny their white side, and rarely vise versa. I am a white woman with bi racial children and I am raising them to be proud of both sides and love themselves. I myself by the way and comfortable in my white skin and would never claim to be something I'm not. I love all races and would never disrespect someone because of the color of their skin. WAKE UP AMERICA!!!!! You are way behind ;(
Because European genes are recessive. They are rarely expressed when mixed with the genes of other races.
Depends. Many white/Asian people do look "white". Many "full blood" whites are also quite brown in skin color: some Arabs, Italians, Spanish, Greeks, and so on.

You're right. It ain't PC to say but "looks" DO matter a lot, for good or bad.

Cause MOST of us; Black, white and so on were raised thru TV and family to see part Black people as "Black". Though I've known a few 1/4 Black or less people who see themselves as white since they have very light skin and eyes, wavy hair, thin noses and smaller lips
If 50% white and 50% hispanic equals a white person, then why does obamas 50% white and 50% black does not equal being a white as well?
seems kind of racist to me sticking someone into a race that they might or might not identify with.
First of all, Hispanic is an ethnicity, not a race. So, yes, white + Hispanic can equal white.
White + black = biracial
It's not rocket science...
