Assuming they leave high schools with some skills, yes. A college education is possible.

True.

My point is there is no reason for staying in poverty just because your parents are poor. Parenting makes all the difference in the world.

I come from a working poor family that did not value education as a way to get ahead. I and my siblings all dropped out of high school.

I later worked my way thru college. I taught my son the value of an education. Most poor and working poor families are like mine was, they don't put a great value on it. Having said all that the opportunity does exist to get an education. America is the land of second chances.
