Ruth Bader Ginsburg:
“People who don’t participate in this market are making it much more expensive for the people who do; that is, they will get, a good number of them will get services that they can’t afford at the point where they need them, and the result is that everybody else’s premiums get raised? It’s not your free choice just to do something for yourself. What you do is going to affect others, affect them in a major way.”
People who can't afford to go to the doctor will often go to the emergency room, the second most expensive area of the hospital in terms of direct costs. Instead of clinics or doctors offices, which are fairly cheap. If those people can't pay the money still needs to come from somewhere, by increasing prices to other patients. Those patients pay higher co-pays and premiums because of it.
A 10 year old should be able to reason through this without difficulty.

No surprise as Ginsberg is no fan of the US Constitution to begin with...........

I might look at the Constitution of South Africa,” says Ginsburg, whom President Clinton nominated to the court in 1993. “That was a deliberate attempt to have a fundamental instrument of government that embraced basic human rights, had an independent judiciary. … It really is, I think, a great piece of work that was done. Much more recent than the U.S. Constitution.”

That is very telling on how we got away from the freest nation in the world, to be just like the rest.
