A question for all. I recall about ten or 15 years ago I was told I had to have proof of insurance in the car. I am pretty sure it was the state I was in (I've lived in California, Colorado, and Oregon). Seems like another universal mandate, but I don't know how many other states require it. Same principle as Trapper John puts forward above. It is an attempt to prevent shenanigans. Anyone know the back story on car insurance laws?
