bobby rush is pretty interesting. Enlisted in the US Army in 1963, went AWOL but was given an honorable discharge. Was in the Black Panthers and present when police shot Fred Hampton as he slept (drugged by an FBI informant hours before the raid). He did time on weapons charges. He became very religious and disenchanted with the Black Panthers due to their glorification of violience and drugs. Graduated from McCormick Seminary in Hyde Park (near U of Chgo). He's the only person ever to have defeated Barack Obama (in 2000, when Obama challenged him in the primary for the IL 1st CD seat). He is the rep for Hyde Park, where Obama's residence is. He routinely wins by 80+ pct.
