Well, you (and they) can thank the American CEOs for giving our I.T. jobs to India and our manufacturing jobs to China.

"By 2050, India will overtake the United States and China to become the world’s largest economy, according to the 2012 Wealth Report produced by Citi Private Bank and Knight Frank, an international property consultancy.

The report forecasts China as taking over the U.S. by 2020."

There are more than a few countries with very high standards of living and great quality of life that don't have the world's largest economy.

Why worry, does having the world's largest economy automatically give you anything but some silly bragging rights?

All such predictions have a fatal flaw and that is neither India or China has the natural resources to keep growing infinitum. B y resources I include such basics as fresh water. Both India and China have populations that are dirt poor and a real problem is what often happens when hundreds of millions with nothing look upon a nation with a few hundred million who are getting a chamce to be middle class or even rich. This is a pretty volatile mixture and serous violence usually happens. So India, China and a few other nations are ticking time bombs. Add religion, high tech weapons and mass media constantly rubbing the poor peoples noses into the ground by showing them what they don't have and so what could possibly go wrong, really?

Yeah.

Good luck with those predictions of 38 years in the future.

mid 1930s:
"Germany is poised to overtake the world economically in a couple decades!"

late 1950s:
"OMG, Sputnik! The Soviets are overtaking us scientifically! They will bury us!"

late 1980s:
"Japan is soon going to eclipse America!"

Dude, what are you smoking? My friends who are Indians and do business there say they are scared out of the pants of China. Get this....Chinese imports can easily be found inside India! That's the truth. The Chinese can still make products cheaper and more efficient than the Indians. You will not find a single Indian product inside China. That's saying something.

When you look at the rapid rise of China recently, I guess nobody can really tell what the world will look like almost 40 years from now. Especially not economists, who are among the world's worst fortune tellers as their horizons are rather narrow. The ranking might look completely different from that forecast.
