They'll have to force the "smart meter" on us. Not having any part of it. Things from the govt. are getting absurd in every area of our lives.

You will most likely meekly submit to the power company in order to lap up their electricity...

I'd bet on that scenario.

I tend to agree. This whole debate reminds me of drunks who argue with a bartender when he cuts them off, and people who complain about a per customer limit on certain purchases except that in some ways I think this is more reasonable. The fact is the electric companies are the ones furnishing you with electricity. They should absolutely be able to limit people's energy purchases if they believe that failing to do so would cause problems with their ability to provide energy. In a free market you cannot force a power company to sell you unlimited power just like you cannot force a bartender to sell you unlimited whiskey sours.

Nope, they will adjust it as the wind blows. Seriously, if the wind dies and they dont have the power, they will cut your AC on/off every 15 min or so. When the wind is blowing, and their windmills are dumping unwanted power on the grid they will turn your water heaters on to burn off the excess power.

Ten to fifteen years from now when more coal power plants close and no new ones are built, we will need to control power or suffer brown outs, and black outs.

Not sure why that is a better idea, but they are doing that anyway.

Not me adjusting it, the utility will make that decision for me. Maybe the utility knows something. Maybe they know that after Obama's EPA gets done shutting down power plants in this country we are going to have massive brownouts and blackouts.

In an election year!

Aren't things supposed to get better with time, ie progress? Handing over control of your thermostat, for electricity that you pay for, to the utility itself is regression. Hell no would I opt-in to that program. I like my home chilly in the summer, 68F.

Progress for a progressive means to cede more control to the geniuses at central planning
