Technological advancements? There are off buttons on every electronic device I own or a plug to yank out of the wall. Simple concept for some to grasp. Others can go play their "I'm being bullied" game and folks like you will take up the cause of the po widdle victim.
"Po widdle victim"? Good lord. Are you sure you are old enough to even have kids?

And so in your la-la land, we haven't had any significant technological advancements since the on/off button? Come on. Why do you insist on being so simplistic. You honestly don't believe that there might be a difference between how you and I interact in an online forum and how we would interact in the same room together? Honestly, I can't imagine a grown man verbalizing aloud, "Po widdle victim," for example.

There ought to be "anti bullying" rules everywhere as a matter of course, it's part of a civilized and polite society. We just need to agree on what bullying is/isn't. Getting your feelings hurt =/= being bullied but having to retreat and avoid things because someone is waiting there to harass you is. Whether it's in person or online. We can't pretend tech doesn't exist or expect people not to use it because other folks think being an @ss is covered under "free speech" or whatever.

Nope. If you think it would be different than you have the problem. I tell it like it is. If you don't like it then go be around somebody else. Pretty simple stuff until folks start whining about getting their feelings hurt or he/she is being mean etc. Then to take it to a completely ludicrous level of being bullied on a gdam computer. It is utterly ridiculous.

Yes and no. Policies mean nothing if it does nothing to stop the problem. I agree that victims of bullying need to learn effective ways to deter the bullying, as these skills can carry them into the workplace, where bullying still occurs, from people who might really have some power over your life. Otherwise, catty, malicious behavior needs to stop being rewarded. That's the only way it'll stop.

Since we obviously have advocates of a caring approach to bullying on here, I feel I must say something more.

As an outsider to your country, I often see the news reports from the US, the ones that stand out, are the mass killings at schools/colleges.

When I see these, do you know what I think? Well, I see a victim that has been pushed too far. Here in the UK, many victims just commit suicide, unable to defend themselves against gang culture, or warfare, or the continual taunting, and physical attacks, (that one seems to be expected to just shrug off), inside, and outside of school.

You get the statements; “He was a loner”, “He kept to himself”, “I didn’t really know him”, you get the idea.

They should have just said; “He was an outcast”, “We didn’t want anything to do with him”, “He didn’t fit in with our group’s profile”.

So, when you see all the outrage, spare a thought for the original victim, I do.

You appear to be saying that's what you and KUchief25 need.

Here's a scenario that you would not be able to stop by simply 'switching off' your computer.

An anonymous person who wants to make your life a misery decides to hack into your email account online and send an email to everyone you know. Your boss, your work colleagues, friends, family, bank manager etc. The email has some graphic accounts of you sexually abusing children and bragging about your childporn collection. The email includes a link to a pedophile website where this anonymous person has used your email address to create an account to make some graphic posts. The email is written as if it comes from you. You walk into work on Monday and your boss gives you the sack. Your friends won't talk to you despite you protesting that it wasn't you that sent the emails and none of it is true. Your wife and family look at you in horror. You report it to the police but they don't believe you because it came from your account. They arrest you. Your reputation is completely destroyed. No-one believes you are innocent because the evidence points to you.

You have no idea who did this, so you can't just go up and punch them in the nose.

This is the sort of thing that a teen 'bully' can do to victimize someone using the internet.

Do you still think that you can just switch off your PC to avoid being victimized by this type of cyber harrassment? Would this person be just calling you names and being 'mean' to hurt your 'po widdle feelings'?
