He escaped Communist Czechoslovakia in 1984 He was a aviation engineering student in Prague and was designing propellers got frustrated with the Gov because they would not let him start his own business or have an opinion or give him a Exit visa.
So he built a plane and escaped to Vienna where he asked for Political Asylum.
