"A pair of drunken Bronx public schoolteachers were arrested after cops found cocaine and a dagger in their vehicle, police said...As reported in the Daily News last month, at least 14 other teachers, substitutes and aides have been arrested this year on charges ranging from sexual abuse and assault to vandalism."
Wonder how many of these 16 will actually be fired and how long it will take to do so while they remain on the payroll? Wonder how many will be reassigned to a different school and how many will simply return to their classroom to share their stories of adventure with their students?
What's the pointof the story??? How is this political or even controversial? Are you surprised that some teachers get high?????
I think many people are, or certainly should be, interested in learning how their tax dollars work, how effective public unions are, who is teaching their children, the number of arrests in the public schools of people who are entrusted with the care of our children and generally get paid very well to do so. Oh, and this case wasn't simply getting "high." How about DUI with cocaine and a weapon in the vehicle. Doesn't speak too well of the level of integrity and responsibility of these two teachers who are responsible for the lives and learning of children on a daily basis at the expense of the tax payer.
And, yes, there are some fine teachers out there. But, we are hearing about more and more that have no business being in a classroom with children and parents and tax payers have a right to know about this and make decisions about where they put their children and how they vote and make their voice heard. So, yes this is a political issue. Don't like it? Don't get it? Don't open the thread again.

What faux outrage.
Their tax dollars are the salaries earned by the teachers.
Who cares if people do recreational drugs?
Really, is this the 6th century again?
I used to be a teacher and to get me in front of a public school classroom again, I'd need more than recreational drugs.

well, they were driving drunk. thats not that cool. i mean we've all done it, but ya know when you're a professional...plus they were probably gettin skiied up as well. a little excessive.
Every professon has people who get drunk or high. You have judges, physicians, librarians, priests, janitors, politicians, carpenters, etc.. who all get high or drunk, anyone that acts suprised by this is an idiot or extremely naive.
"Mancusco and Aguilar — both teachers at the Entrada Academy in Longwood — were hit with drunken driving, drug and weapon possession charges, police said.
The arrests mark the latest in a troubling spate of busts involving city Education Department staffers.

The NYC taxpayers have a right to know, they are paying their salaries.
