The Supreme Court refused Monday to limit strip searches of new jail inmates, even those arrested for minor traffic offenses.

Dividing 5-4 along ideological lines, the high court said jail guards needed the full authority to closely search everyone who is entering a jail in order to maintain safety and security.

Albert Florence was held for six days and finally released when he showed the fine had already been paid before he was arrested. He then sued county jail officials for violating his privacy and subjecting him to a humiliating strip search
This is a conservative decision?

That's the problem with doing away with showers in gym class. Everyone gets uppity about their perceived modesty.

Strip'em if you got'em. So much for that guy's payday.

I see no reason to idsallow it for one perosn not convisted than anther not convisted of a crime. Safety is the reason for searches and that means anyone arrested can be acrryig denagerous ;illegal items into the secure jail., Mnay actaully have search unannoced of emplyeees working in the jail because of items they smuggle like drugs etc.

It is a jail, of course they need to strip search people. They've pulled cell phones out of colons at detention intake, sheesh.

Another example of the big government, extremist nature of the GOP. Vote GOP in November 2012 and you'll be voting for more of this.

This is a Supreme Court decision. The Supreme Court is neutral, unbiased, and entirely free from any potential political considerations influencing its decisions.

Hard to believe that the 4 libs on the court don't think prisoners should be fully searched before they enter a jail or prison for the safety of the guards and other prisoners.

Wonder what you'll have to say if you ever get arrested for a broken headlight (yes, you can get arrested for that) and are subsequently required to spread your butt cheeks.
