I am intrigued by all the Texas posters on this forum. It seems like many of the most impassioned debaters on the left and right are from the Lone Star State.

Why is that? Are Texans inclined to argue politics more than others? Is C-D particularly popular there?

I don't mind personally, as many of the poster share good ideas and information, just curious.

And since this is the only national level blog I go to discuss (ok, argue) politics, I am wondering how representative these discussions are.

Moderator: Could you please move this thread to the general P&OC category? I mistakenly put it here. I'll delete this post when you do. Thanks! FH.

We're the second most populous state. 1 out of every 12 or so Americans is a Texan.

And we just tend to be passionate in general. It doesn't really matter what the topic is.

We Texans are a hearty, very patriotic and outspoken bunch, and yes I am aware that this is a generalization. I know I cannot speak for every single Texan though I'm from a family of many generations, there.

We're a passionate bunch. No wonder it's part of the bible belt.

I do not think that CD just happens to be more known in Texas than other forums or websites, no.

Most seem to be hard right wing goons that parrot fox news and other right wing talking points that I've noticed

Well, more are conservative than liberal, that is true. But there are those too, and moderates. Funny, some of the most passionate liberals hail from there too. I have a great friend in Texas, a badazz super lesbian outdoor person. All around super person, and she gets fired up when I talk about Bush, etc. "They are just damn Yankees dressing up like Texans!!!"

Just kind of interesting, because California is about 60% more populous and so is NY, but they are not as common on this forum.

Just wondering if there is some explanation for the outsized Texan viewpoints here.

So it is. I stand corrected. I forget that New York has one huge city. Texas has several.

Yes, we have 5 of the 20 most populous cities in the country, as well as 2 of the 10 most populous metropolitan areas.

NYC is pretty much all there is in NY. Buffalo, Albany, Syracuse, and Rochester are not that big at all.

Some people just can't help themselves. Which degrades credibility a little bit every time.
