...and we all are paying the price in increasingly dumbed down graduates just ripe for the Marxist picking.
"The University of California system has been raising tuitions and cutting departments. But, reports John Leo in the invaluable Minding the Campus blog, its San Diego campus found the money to create a new post of "vice chancellor for equity, diversity and inclusion..."The money for the new vice chancellorship could have supported two of the three cancer researchers that the campus lost to Rice University in Houston, a private school that apparently takes the strange view that hard science is more important than diversity facilitators."
" The University of North Carolina at Wilmington saved some money by lumping together two science departments and raised spending on its five diversity-multicultural offices."
"But, to quote George W. Bush, is our students learning? Not very much, concludes the California Association of Scholars in its 87-page study of the University of California system..."Students aren't required to study American history or Western civilization. But they're subjected to a lot of political indoctrination by leftist activists."
Perhaps if the UC system didn't payout over $2 million on coaches at UC Berkley or UCLA we might have something to discuss.
As for Rice, hell they have a staff member at the school of music responsible for diversity recruitment and I doubt that he is the only one. And with regards to the University of North Carolina, looks like there is a whole lot of parring down as a result of program duplication and not to boost the budget of their diversity programs.
Maybe one of those science departments was working on shrimp treadmill studies or something atrocious like evolution.
To make a long story short, your screed doesn't demonstrate causality.

Okay I'm really hoping that I'm reading this wrong. I really really hope that the quote isn't "is our students learning?"

Except the UC system schools, like most Division 1 colleges, self fund athletics and the money paid to coaches has nothing to do with money spent on academics. College sports is over the top, but that money for coaches comes from TV, tickets, and donors.
This whole "tolerance, equality, diversity and acceptance" stuff libs put so much time and emphasis on is plain stupid and pointless.
They certainly don't seem to be very accepting of those who have different viewpoints from theirs.
But that has nothing to do with diversity. Diversity in today's world is all about race. Diversity is a university code word for racial quotas.
