I agree. I think a murder conviction requires premeditation, and there is no indication that this was the case. Did the prosecutor go for 2ndM to placate the mobs, is she reaching and trying to score political points, or does she have some evidence that hasn't been released?
This is involuntary manslaughter at most and they could have easily gotten a conviction on that. Instead they charge him with Second Degree Murder which requires proof of premeditation ensuring it will be much, much harder to get a conviction.
I think the special prosecutor knows more than we do. There is a witness who says GZ's head never touched the concrete. Most of the same people who thought GZ would never be charged now think he will walk.
Like I said...we shall see when ALL the evidence is presented. This is a tragedy and I hope that the trial is as fair as possible for both Martin and Zimmerman and that the case is tried under CURRENT law. Picking an unbiased jury is going to be extremely difficult.
They should have gone with manslaughter, I don't see enough evidence for 2nd degree. Perhaps, they are holding back.
Even if they dont have additional evidence its a win -win for the state. They have the murder charge to appease the outraged, and they can blame the jury if he's found not guilty. Amateur, but shrewd work by the state prosecutor's office
Feeling pretty emotional right now. Not because Zimmerman has been charged; but because Trayvon's parents know that he did not die in vain. His death was not brushed aside; the public cried out for him and demanded justice for him. Though his life was short, he has touched the lives of many.
RIP, Trayvon. Whether Zimmerman is found guilty or not, know that we DID NOT allow your death to go unanswered.
Based on everything that has surfaced since I predicted Murder 2 I bet he walks unless they can agree on a lesser charge.
All this does is put the jury on the hook.
Yeah but you know *they* are going to go after the jury members if they acquit him. *They* will not accept anything less than a conviction ... and once he is in prison he will get a shank in his back. So much for justice.
No way Zimmerman can get a fair trial. He will be railroaded even if he is really innocent.
