Why are they illegal? Since when does government own the individual so that they have the final say on what you can or cannot put into your body? Standing up for the rights of the individual is something positive. No one is saying it's okay to do drugs and to run out and party til you drop. Addicts should be treated for the disease and not locked up away from their family.
How about as long as the rights of others are not violated you do not arrest or fine people?
Our drug laws are steeped in racism. 1/6 of all drug users are black, yet 1/3 of all arrests and 2/3 of those serving time on drug charges are black. Marijuana laws were passed partly on racism. When you say black you are saying poor. Poor people cannot fight the system and are hurt much more by fines and the criminal justice system than the middle and upper class.
Hogwash. Blacks get more time because they commit more crime. If you get caught with a joint, the cop runs your record, and sees you have no prior offenses is he more likely to let you off vs. someone with a lengthy record?

I'd like to see proof of your "no prior offense theory". So according to you there are no black people whose first offense was simple possession.

Walking around with a joint is a crime because the federal government says that marijuana is illegal. I see common sense escapes you. Do you really think there is data from times police let people slide? Hint: there isn't any because the police let them slide. Crow on all you want. Blacks commit more crimes- period.
