I value education. Wish it had been on the list.

I believe it is easier to change a corrupt government than the monopoly that created the coruption. There is no honor amongst theives and even less in big business. Government can be inept but monopoly, or the variants, business is inimical.

The word "God" is being used for every motive under the sun: for war, for profit, for the right, for the left...

As such, it often leads to confusion and obscurity.

How can a "Christian" who says that "God is love" support guns for protection, law suits, the death penalty, pay-for health care....?????

"Either make the tree good, and the fruit good....."

Goodness is within us all, if we want to follow it. Generosity is part of this. So is empathy. So is modesty. So is spirituality...

Peace,
brian

Other than bitterness I checked them all too. I can't think of a situation where bitterness is good. The rest all have their place, even selfishness. I mean nobody works a full time job cleaning sewers or collecting garbage out of compassion or generosity. They do it to get paid. Selfishness and greed. And I value the fact that someone comes around once a week and collects my garbage. I've lived outside city limits before were you had to tote your own garbage to the dump so I know how nice it is to just leave it at the curb once a week.

The context matters a lot when answering something like this.
Do you ever find your values are at complete odds depending on context? In other words, do you sacrifice certain values depending on the goal at hand?

"Generosity...is not necessarily a good value/trait to have."

Generosity is not limited by the material. What about generosity of spirit? of giving one's time to a loved one?

To summarize: I'm a liberal atheist. I don't worship money or the market, and I believe people should be put over excessive profits.

I value education and the separation of church and state as well. Society won't get anywhere denying basic facts.

This poll about values is a good opportunity for the greedy and selfish to flatter themselves.

If I may, I was very interested to see if the poll numbers would accurately reflect the attitudes seen on this board with regard to personal and social issues.

So far, I am not seeing it. I don't know if it's denial, shame, or lack of insight.

First you need to define those basic facts - they aren't being denied if they aren't facts to begin with.
