By 6:30 a.m., a full hour and a half before the store would open, about two dozen people were already in line. They waited patiently, not for the latest iPhone, but for something far more basic: groceries.
“Whatever I can get,” said Katherine Huga, 23, a mother of two, describing her shopping list. She gave a shrug of resignation. “You buy what they have.”
Venezuela is one of the world’s top oil producers at a time of soaring energy prices, yet shortages of staples like milk, meat and toilet paper are a chronic part of life here, often turning grocery shopping into a hit or miss proposition.
But many economists call it a classic case of a government causing a problem rather than solving it. Prices are set so low, they say, that companies and producers cannot make a profit. So farmers grow less food, manufacturers cut back production and retailers stock less inventory. Moreover, some of the shortages are in industries, like dairy and coffee, where the government has seized private companies and is now running them, saying it is in the national interest.
Hey *******s remember the Russian food shortages of 1917. Oh wait how about the Communist Soviet food shortages of 1989.
Gotta love those socialists
They never learn. We have thousands of years of data and empirical evidence that price controls don't work. Yet the Leftists believe this time it will be different.
Such a propagandist you are, since when is America low on food? You take a completely unrelated leader and attempt to tie him to Obama with NO corroborating evidence, you might as well say Obama wants to lop off heads like Vlad the Impaler. Why is it the very stupidest on here post meaningless threads that have the flimsiest of ties to politics then say "oh, Obama is like that too!"

What? Obama is a Leftist, Chavez is a Leftist. The only reason Obama can't do what Chavez is doing is because of resistance doesn't mean he doesn't want to.

There is not a single thing accurate about what you said. Obama is center-right, there is no left in American politics, only a party relatively to the left of the American Taliban GOP. Obama's signature legislation is Obamacare, which is practically the same as Romneycare, the Republican presidential candidate's signature legislative achievement. Obama has not at all raised taxes on any group of Americans and has kept income tax rates FAR below the Reagan era. Obama opposes gay marriage. There is nothing to the left at all about any policy he has EVER put forth. You have shown your complete ignorance in what the left is on the political spectrum, taking cues from what right wing pundits and politicians say rather than actually reading about what socialism is. This kind of ignorance demonstrates why Americans are so easily lied to by crooks and will never get honest government, they accept things ad-men tell them and never use critical thinking

ah, yes, we've never gotten the right people in there to carry out socialism properly. Plus there is the fact that the devil (Bush) is always there to undermine our best laid plans.
