Americans United is doing the work of the Gestapo in the name of the Constitution. This is the worst kind of political collaboration.
These are the last words of the article that you failed read, at least all of.
I think that you could look at the footnotes provided in the article to books that were written about the subject of the Gestapo. You might even be interested to read the comparison of the Gestapo that includes much of the history of how they worked with certain ministers including one named Niemoeller. How many did they imprison for speaking out against the policies of Hitler? Several hundred in a small country like Germany.
Hey, the man used well known treatises on the time as sources. Actually all of them were written before 1965 which would put them a bit before the real rewrites of history by progressives but nevertheless never proven wrong by said progressives. Go ahead and read that part of the article.
"We were convinced that the people need and require this faith. We have therefore undertaken the fight against the atheistic movement, and that not merely with a few theoretical declarations: we have stamped it out."
- Adolf Hitler, 1933
That wasn't merely a footnote. It was a stepping stone.
No, weak indicates the article's analogy between Americans United and the Gestapo is weak. I shouldn't have to keep pointing these things out to you. But you keep insisting that I do.
Of course, you did read the part of the weak article that was history of what happened to hundreds of ministers in Germany, didn't you? Naw, why waste your time?

It has the sound of many of Obama's utterances and I don't know how many atheists he jailed but do know, from the article, that many more than a thousand priests and ministers were jailed for talking out against the leader. That is pretty Obamaesque, or soon will be.

You mean Obama is actually against secular ideas and promotes Christianity? And you're the opposite, right?
So now, Obama is a commie, atheist, anti-secular, pork eating, beer drinking, Muslim, Christianity preaching... Kenyan. Got it.
I guess it is time to remind the "Freedom of Speech" crowd once again that words can and often do have consequences. Sure go ahead shout out whatever you want, but never forget that those you work for may not share your opinion and you may not like their expression of their displeasure over your words. As for religious leaders, go ahead preach whatever you want, but if you cross the line and start mixing in your political opinions then say goodbye to your tax free status, since after all if it is wrong for the government to mix in religion then it applies in both directions. I would also remind the couple of Traitors here that advocate the armed overthrow of the government that your Freedom of Speech has limits and always has, speak of overthrowing the government loud enough and you will find yourself getting to know the power of the government to protect itself under the laws that are in place in a very personal manner. So go ahead say anything you want folks, but be aware that when you express yourself you may not get the reaction you are looking for and it can and often does demand a price.
have been using Gestapo techniques against a priest who criticized president Obama's policies. I guess we still have some freedom of speech as long as we don't speak out against someone like him. Maybe they can get freedom of speech and religion at the same time using those techniques.
It is pretty clear that not only do we need to make certain that all religion is separate from Government, but we actually need to go one step further and actually ban all religion from the USA. This would certainly involve seizing all Church assests.
Let's just recap: A religious organization flagrantly breaks the rules that come with their tax-exempt status, gets called on it, and - what else? - claims to be victim of persecution.
Why does it baffle some churches so much that they're subject to the same rules as everybody else?
So they can play their 'victim card' in hopes that it trumps everything else.
