Private prison house less than 9% of the total prison population in America. That shoots holes in the "profit motive" theory that has been thrown out repeatedly. More than 91% of America's prison population is housed in government facilities, so where is the "profit motive" there?

Prisons simply keep the criminal element separate from the non-crimianals. Criminals know the probable penalty for their crimes, and no one makes them break the law. Breaking the law is most times a conscious act,...and ignorance of the law is still no excuse. If you can't do the time,...don't do the crime.....

If prisons are designed to punish criminals... judging by the fact that it is full, it seems to be working otherwise it would be empty... I find it odd that people think prisons should be empty... huh?

It's all about money. The prison system is corrupt.

To give criminals free room and board, health care, education, gym membership, and an opportunity to network with other criminals so they can come out harder and smarter criminals.

The United States contains just 5 percent of the world's population, yet its prisons house nearly a quarter of all the people incarcerated around the globe. We imprison our citizens at a greater rate than any other country; as a result, nearly 1 in every 100 Americans today is living behind bars. Since 1970, the U.S. prison population has increased by 700 percent, to 2.4 million people.

Well they fail miserably then. Most white men and women do not go to prison for their crimes regardless of what they are. Most black men and women that get caught up in the Justice system do go to prison for reasons that do not always involve criminality. Since the only way conservatives communicate is by the ad nauseum repetition of debunked talking points we get no movement forward on important social issues. That's a problem.

The prisons are overflowing BECAUSE .. there exists no deterrent to crime; If you get caught you get a nice warm bed; 3 meals per day - basketball - exercise - all your friends. Drugs, alcohol and all the sex you want etc.

We need to evacuate an island and let them provide for themselves. No food - no clothing - no gym and tv and playstation games. Watch the crime drop when they find out - they'll be eaten alive by other in-mates. We spend hundreds of billions to make them civil and it doesn't work. It is a failed system that needs to be fixed!

Hard manual labor 12 hours a day.

All the sex you want? Interesting. More often than not I believe it is all of the sex that you don't want. Interesting that you have a different take on it.
