Lets see how many people really know the answer to this question.

In 2004, at this time of year Bush had been to 58 campaign money raising speeches and by comparison Obama has been on 123 of the same speeches. I really wonder how many think the answer is true and how many think it is false. Of course, I know the answer is true and you can prove it to yourself.

Not to mention his golf outings. When Obama is not out setting the fires, Obama mulligans while the US burns.

Hmm... Let's see: Bush went against an challenger with a projected $80M war chest. Obama is going against a challenger w/ a projected $800M war chest.

Thank you Citizens United.

Spending by presidential campaigns has steadily gone up cycle by cycle with or without Citizens United.
Presidential Fundraising and Spending, 1976 - 2008 | OpenSecrets

total spending (on both sides, in millions of dollars).
2008...$1,324.7
2004....$717.9
2000....$343.1
1996....$239.9

2012 will probably be not far from the $2 billion mark. I think it just reflects that fact that there is a lot of money in rent seeking. Even though they are a gamble, these campaign donations yield a tremendous ROI on balance. The truly big boys like to hedge their bets by donating to both sides.

And who voted for the GOP, who then appointed these right wing SCOTUS judges that ruled corporations (legal entities created by state statutes) have the same free speech rights as individuals? The Dem appointed judges dissented.

The OP is complaining about money in politics when his own ideology contributed to it.

I doubt he even realizes this.

This thread is like a poster child for right wing voters that don't even realize the damage they cause to their own self interests.

Yes, but do you want to discuss WHY that is so, let me help ya out, it is because the Repubs started their race far sooner than usual and and it seems to be a trend. Will the next start Dec 2012?

Look at the numbers I posted. Citizen's United is near-irrelevant. Campaign spending was shooting up before, and continued shooting up after. If CU had gone the other way, the campaign spenders would have just found alternate avenues. As long as there is such a massive pot of gold sitting in Washington DC, they will find ways to chase it.
