On the issue of marrying at 14? Before y'all get your panties in a wad over how "evil" Islam is, you should know that it's perfectly legal to marry at 14 in New York and Texas, provided that certain conditions are met. 16, or even younger, is allowed by a lot of states.
Half our ancestors married that young.

Yeah, but they weren't Muslims so it was OK.

It made sense to marry a 14 year old back when people died before they reached 45. Modern medicine has extended our life expectancy and we don't need to procreate with children anymore. Someone should yank the ninjas into the 21st century already so they can snap out of whatever satanic trance they've been under for the past 3000 years.

Hello every body this is my first post , I was navigating your forum and i found this thread and as a moslem Egyptian I should explain this situation here. first Dr. Mervat al-Talawi has announced that she had never sent a letter to the Egyptian Parliament regarding a law of allowing a husband to have sex with his dead wife within six hours of her death, she said that this is all not true and such law was never offered or discussed in the parliament

I have to explain that Islam never allow such crime to happen with a dead women, in Islam the dead has all respect and must be buried in the soonest time after death happen and The only action that is allowed is to wash the dead body and to be covered according to Islamic regulations then to be buried in a grave.

as for the situation of marrying a girl in the age 14 this is a social problem, it was an old tradition in Egypt to marry girls in a young age in 14 and some times in 12 but this is also some thing from tradition not from Islam, today this problem is found only in poor communities in Egypt. Islam was clear that to marry a girl she must grow up and be Mentally, physically and psychologically ready to such responsibility also Islam conditioned that the girl acceptance is a condition for marriage

I hope I could explained the two subjects

Maybe there is some hope that the activity will trigger a resurrection?

The appeal came in a message sent by Dr. Mervat al-Talawi, head of the NCW, to the Egyptian People’s Assembly Speaker, Dr. Saad al-Katatni, addressing the woes of Egyptian women, especially after the popular uprising that toppled president Hosni Mubarak in February 2011.

She was referring to two laws: one that would legalize the marriage of girls starting from the age of 14 and the other that permits a husband to have sex with his dead wife within the six hours following her death.

From a strictly libertarian point of view - just why should there be a law prohibiting such activity?

Whom does it harm?

Does the dead wife count as one of the 77 virgins?

Maybe the would be martyrs have some doubts about their supposed reward.
