Don’t buy gasoline in my town.

That’s the message from the mayor of New Lenox, who says stations there are simply charging too much.

CBS 2′s Derrick Blakley reports, a Speedway station in New Lenox is selling a gallon of regular unleaded gasoline for $4.14. At a nearby Speedway in Frankfort, it’s five cents cheaper.

Ignorance is bliss.
I'm sure the tax rates in his town are never a problem.

I live in Lockport, which is right next to New Lenox. I drive thru New Lenox often on my way to highway 355, gas price are a bit higher. As far as I know, gas tax in New Lenox is the same as most other towns out here. All the towns in this area of Chicago-land are real close to each other, so I'm sure variances exist once you cross into different town borders but they can't be wildly different from each other.

Don't you wish common sense was a prerequisite, for holding any public office or job.

Intelligence is great, only if you can see past the nose you look down on everyone with.

The cheapest price for a gallon of regular unleaded gasoline in the entire State of Alaska is $4.18. Should everyone in Alaska stop buying gasoline?

Good for the mayor speaking up. He is standing up for his citizens against the greed of big oil. These oil companies have been rigging prices for too long. It isn't the local owner setting the prices, it is their supplier dictating prices.

I watch our local station act in unison with their price changes all the time, day to day, even hour to hour. Even though they are different brands they all change at the same time.

I suspect the oil exec's have been dictating a slightly higher price in new lenex, maybe based on sales volume and local economic factors. You ever notice that price are higher in a very wealthy community, a place where convenience thumps price considerations???

Only the government should profit from the sale of fuel ^^^

FWIW my average pool margin on a gallon of gas when I was a dealer was 4.5 cents

Looks like someone went to the same business school as the mayor.

Have you looked at the price of a gallon in Hawaii?

How about Saudi Arabia?

Good for him.

I'm betting any economic benefits of gas stations in a town are negligible at best.
