States to Federal DHS: See you in court. Bring your copy of the Constitution showing your authority to tell us how to make our drivers' licenses.
This is the best answer I have seen here so far.

We all had to show our Driver Licenses to vote in our primaries this spring. I doubt our state government will get pushed around on this one.

I didn't read which law it was that put this excess of power in the hands of Janet Napolitano.

Old- just say who you are and where you live.
New- Prove who you are and where you live. Show a birth certificate or passport, your social security card and a current utility bill.
What's the big deal in 7 states that refuse to have people prove their identity?
So what happens to those people that DON'T have those things?

This last group includes, at a minimum, Montana, Washington State, Minnesota, Oklahoma, Arizona, Louisiana, and Alaska. New Mexico has no prohibitions against compliance, but has been unable to revise state laws to meet the lawful presence requirements set by the federal driver’s license rules. Oregon’s legislature considered law changes needed for federal compliance in 2011, as did Illinois, but the legislation failed in both states

I was the Real ID Act of 2005, passed by the Republican dominated Congress and signed into law by George Bush.

At the time, Napolitano was the Governor of Arizona and she opted her state out of it, calling it pointless, expensive and nothing more than "feel good" legislation.

As Secretary, she offered an alternative called the Pass ID Act which addressed most of the concerns about Real ID, but Congress wouldn't pass it. Guess which party shot it down?

There is ways to obtain those documents, in my state a birth certificate can be obtained by a close relative; wife/husband , Father, Mother, children....

It would be a good idea for those governors to alert their residents that the driver's licenses in their pockets won't be acceptable IDs beginning next year.

it wont be acceptable in federal areas, but state areas it is fine. also I see a bunch of states telling the feds to go suck an egg.

the worth of what the FRN is these days, there might be a few states that might tell the fed to suck an egg.
