It is accurate.

I know many other families with no father, or 'father-figure',
and the offspring are all highly non-functional.

So your dad could have been a woman and everything about your life would have been just the same?

It's hard to say as the personality would have been different.

On a second glance at the article it looks like it is probably three female generations of the same family.

Why can't a mother discipline a child just as well as a father can?

If they are "non-functional" according to you then the problem lies with their parenting skills and not their "gender".
Please tell us how many "non-functional" kids we have that have a "mother" and a "father"?
Answer? Plenty!

I'm not saying that lesbians raising a child is a tragedy, imo it's just not as optimal.
Daughters have a special relationship with their fathers and mothers have a special relationship with their sons. These relationships can't be substituted with someone of the same sex.

I don't really think that's true. All parents have special relationships with their children, they are special because they are unique. If you are talking about parental gender influence and modeling, just having 2 parents of different genders is not always a good thing if one of them is ineffective. In my opinion having 2 involved parents who love their children, and surrounding the family with people who offer positive influence is optimal.

There is a world of difference between one parent and two parents of the same sex, though.

'One' is far too small a sample size to deduce any sort of accurate conclusion.

I agree!! Then there's this.............Guess it's all in who's reliable opinion your looking for................

Wikipedia:Introduction - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Wikipedia is a free encyclopedia, written collaboratively by the people who use it. It is a special type of website designed to make collaboration easy, called a wiki. Many people are constantly improving Wikipedia, making thousands of changes per hour. All of these changes are recorded in article histories and recent changes. For a more detailed account of the project, see About Wikipedia

How you can contribute
Don't be afraid to edit – anyone can edit almost every page, and we are encouraged to be bold! Find something that can be improved and make it better—for example, spelling, grammar, rewriting for readability, adding content, or removing non-constructive edits. If you wish to add new facts, please try to provide references so they may be verified, or suggest them on the article's discussion page. Changes to controversial topics and Wikipedia's main pages should usually be discussed first.
Remember – you can't break Wikipedia; all edits can be reversed, fixed or improved later. Wikipedia is allowed to be imperfect. So go ahead, edit an article and help make Wikipedia the best information source on the Internet!
