Since the 1980s, it seems to me that we have seen a relentless series of tax cuts of various types, but especially for those at the top. Now that we are running a deficit, folks who want to balance the budget with some revenue options (back to, say, 1990s tax and spending levels) are considered socialists and communists. How can after 15 steps to the right 2 steps to the left be a socialist revolution?

My wife thinks it is pure political mud slinging (say the most outrageous thing you can get by with and hope it sticks). Is she right?

15 steps to the right? On what planet?

Try taking a look at the number of new government regulations since the 1990s that affect every aspect of our daily lives and get back to me.

Try looking at how many of our Constitutional rights have been infringed upon since the 1990s and get back to me.

Try looking at how much of society fails to pay income taxes compared to 1990 and get back to me.

Try looking at how many Americans have been added to the welfare and foodstamp rolls since 1990 and get back to me.

Of course she's right. Watch the mudslinging begin on this thread. Did you really think you'd get a reasoned reply from most people? Wait and see. You would get better results in the "Great Debates" section, just fyi.

What we have now is socialism for the rich; many are paying less federal tax than their own staff. Why would they want to give up a good thing?

So lets find ways to lower taxes for the staff.
Some can't stand to see people keep their own money.

You can't spend a dollar with only 50 cents.

Set spending at 1990 rates.

In the era of Grover Norquist and the Tea Party,NAFTA, DOMA, Bush's tax cuts and Limbaugh/Hannity/Beck/Coulter, you're kidding me right?

I agree with this. But until we get out of these wars and depression it is going to be hard.

Please allow me to correct you on a few things:

Clinton signed NAFTA and made it a cornerstone of his campaign to do so.

Obama's current tax rates (he signed them).

Tea Party was about fiscal responsibility. Despite getting many people elected they were not able to get past the Progressives in either the DNC or GOP (Progressive = large central government with the large social spending programs to match). Unfortunately many of the Tea Party freshmen class were corrupted by the powers that be and became rubber stamps for Progressive spending policies. Harry Reid has been successful in stopping any bi-partisan House passed budget from getting to the Senate floor for a vote.

Obama refuses to enforce DOMA, even though it is the law. Therefore it is a lame duck and currently has no effect on anything.

What the heck do media talking heads have to do with anything? I noticed you conveniently left out the left Progressive talking heads. How does that hypocrisy work?

Technically no, that is not correct. What we have is economic fascism. In otherwords an oligarchy of corporate/government partnership where the people have no say.

If you want an end to economic fascism then you need to look at Ron Paul instead of Obama-Romney.

Taxes haven't been cut enough..

Let the politicians take a pay cut and disband NATO and the UN. Get rid of half the deficit that way. As long as the savings aren't used for entitlements.

I see that Ruth really likes that old man who doesn't know the different in the amount he pays on his investments as compared to the income tax his highly paid secretary pays. You must be willing to believe anything Warren Buffet and Barack Obama throw at you,
