He has no choice, he's no different then Obama in these matters. They both made ludicrous promises of a Utopia, during the campaign, but once they are sworn into office, oh gee, Gitmo can't close, earmarks can't be banned, and they cannot tax and spend their way to prosperity.

Maybe Hollande will figure out the last one sooner then Obama ever will, because if he doesn't France will be embroiled in civil unrest and a dead economy.

Unfortunately history has plenty of examples of borrowing, taxing and spending your way to prosperity. There are also plenty of examples of saving, scrimping and starving your way to economic depression.

I remember people on here saying austerity is a bad idea... now the Greeks have elected those with the same idea... I like how things are playing out... the leftist ideals have a shot at being put up for everyone to see... too bad the leftist don't believe in their own rhetoric.. I would of like to seen it put up and fail... their ideology doesn't even come close to reality..

Beat me to it.

Politics is full of big promises to get elected followed by a departure from plan.

However, this isn't even really shocking.

What's shocking is the mental gymnastics people will commit in order to try to validate that they weren't really promised something and not given it and that the candidate is still wonderful even if they pulled a 180 on them.

Bush's read my lips no new taxes, Clinton supporting NAFTA, Bush's spending, Obama's anti-war and guantanamo......it's non-partisan.

Its one thing to not follow through... it is another thing to say socialist policies work and not even try to implement it because even you don't believe in it....

He probably got a call from Merkel. She probably said: "Sarko probably hasn't told you, but spending increases is not how we roll around here. It's spending cuts for you buddy. If you still want to be someone we listen to, you better keep your AA+ Rating."

Hollande's people had already been meeting with the Merkel administration even prior to the election.

Hollande eyes quick consensus with Merkel on growth | Reuters

It would be safe to say that the Socialist French President-elect Hollande differs very little from Obama.

Quote:
Hollande's presidential program, which calls for creating tens of thousands of new jobs for teachers and policemen, as well as raising the minimum wage, does not include plans for reforming France's rigid labor regulations.

I know they had met before. It was meant to be a joke.
