It's not that he's refusing because he doesn't like you, but fact is, if you hire someone, and then change the parameters of their job to violate their faith, and then fire them for it, I can't even guess the size of the lawsuit.
How does processing paperwork violate their faith? It's the State that is granting them their legal marriage, not the individual who processes the application for a marriage license.
So what? So does the Koran. So does a couple of dozen other so-called "holy" books. We don't legislate based upon them, and laws that have been found to exist for purely religious reasons, with no secular justification have been, and should be, struck down as unconstitutional.
It is defined as such because that is how we legislated it. Legislation can, and constantly is changed and updated. Sometimes it's even deleted. WE decide what marriage is.
I don't know why that hasn't created a constitutional situation, with the whole "full faith and credit" clause thing.
They said the same thing about interracial marriage 40 years ago. They were wrong then, you are wrong now, as history will show. It's no longer a question of "if" only "when, and how".
you said "WE" decide what marriage is? Ok, then how come the 6 or 7 states that have rewritten it have done so w/o the majority approval? And, (in the california case) in some cases the laws went strictly against what the people voted for. Our government is supposed to be "of the people, for the people". That isn't happening right now. We have seen this with healthcare, immigration, and other issues as well. This current pres & congress will pay a heavy price in November.

No matter how many times you people keep lying, doesn't make it true. The Supreme Court declared it a right. Therefore, under our government, it is no matter how much you disagree or claim it isn't.

Stupid argument. Rights can have exceptions if there is a valid legal argument for them. Owning a gun is protected by the 2nd Amendment. Doesn't mean you're allowed to have a military style assault rifle and carry it to your local supermarket.

Regardless, if it's required of all citizens, it would not violate equal protection. If it were required, say, for blacks but not whites, or men but not women, unless there were a compelling reason (for example, if it were to test for a disease that only afflicts men), it would.
You can bet your ass that gays will want to force every religion to recognize gay marriage also.
Today, I am in favor of allowing individual churches to decide, or not, whether or not they will perform same sex marriage.
