LIke California, where marriage for gays was banned by a public vote? It took an activist judge to overturn the will of the people.

Neither, really... it is as natural for some to be homosexual as it is for others to be narrow-minded bigots, I suppose.

Not just gay and lesbian couples and families but heterosexual defacto couples and families as well.

Or do these people seriously not realise what "the only legal domestic union that is valid or recognised" really means?

For couples in NC to have any sort of validity or legal recognition now, they MUST be married.

So if a heterosexual person works for an NC based company which previously offered health insurance coverage for their defacto heterosexual partner and children...... guess what?

How many heterosexual non-married defacto couples/families are there are in NC?

It amazes me that everything you have posted in this thread is completely wrong. Did you even read my article as you said you would? If every animal species on Earth has gay members, it's not a choice.

It would appear that sexual orientation is biological in nature, determined by genetic factors (Mustanski et al, 2005) and/or the early uterine environment (Blanchard et al. 2006). Sexual orientation is therefore not a choice, though sexual behaviour clearly is.

Psychiatry and LGB people

Brain scans have provided the most compelling evidence yet that being gay or straight is a biologically fixed trait.

The scans reveal that in gay people, key structures of the brain governing emotion, mood, anxiety and aggressiveness resemble those in straight people of the opposite sex.

The differences are likely to have been forged in the womb or in early infancy, says Ivanka Savic, who conducted the study at the Karolinska Institute in Stockholm, Sweden.

Gay brains structured like those of the opposite sex - life - 16 June 2008 - New Scientist

The it's a choice argument is the dumbest argument in the entire arsenal of anti-gay propaganda. Get an education please.

Some parts of California are actually really socially conservative. That doesn't make the state overall conservative. "Red" and "blue" happen in pockets smaller than the size of states.

Gee, you mean the homosexual behavior observed in say dolphins for example isn't the result of some left-wing, commie-pinko, unionized dolphin teachers pushing their gay agenda on young dolphins?

Who knew?

Marriage is one of the "basic civil rights of man,"

The Supreme Court declared it a civil right. Therefore, by law, it is. Again, please get an education. You are impossible to take seriously with such a display of pure ignorance.

and what right is that (if you mean the right to marry no one took that away from them they can still get married to a member of the opposite sex)
