Cardinal Timothy M. Dolan is charging President Barack Obama with undermining the “very cornerstone of society” by supporting “gay marriage.”

Cardinal Dolan, president of the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops, described the president’s endorsement as “deeply saddening.”

The bishops “cannot be silent in the face of words or actions that would undermine the institution of marriage, the very cornerstone of our society,” he said in a May 9 statement. “The people of this country, especially our children, deserve better.”

Cardinal Dolan said that the announcement was “not surprising” based on the Obama administration’s previous actions, which “erode or ignore the unique meaning of marriage.”
He called for prayer and efforts to “promote and protect marriage” in order to “serve the true good of all persons.”

Maybe he should spend more time getting the child molesters out of the Catholic clergy than worrying about something that in no way affects a heterosexual couples ability to marry or have children.

Hey Bishop. Shut your trap and enjoy your tax exempt status and federal funding. A great thing about this country is that people are allowed to have opinions.

If you are the LEADER of a organization that WILLFULLY covered up the molestation of young boys for YEARS then a apology is the LEAST of what you should be doing.

The Catholic Church really has lost a great deal of credibility in terms of telling other people what to do.

Sort of odd that an organization comprised of so many gay men ... the priests and child abusers who make-up the worldwide Roman Catholic Church ... would object to two men or two women getting married. And odd, again, that a religion which has presided over so many hundreds of millions or more failed marriages would seek to deny others the right to try to get it right. The Cardinal has absolutely no credibility on either the gay or marriage topics ... nor does the fairy who wears the red Prada shoes in Rome.

The never-ending supply of amusement, right out of your five times a day chanting... in defense of a guy who oversaw bankruptcy of the church owing to... child molestation.

Whats the bid deal here. The Catholic Church whether you agree with or not, has a right to their stance on the subject, as has our President.
The majority of people i know, and believe me we know tons of people, still believe that a Man and Women is what marriage is all about.
It is the younger people we know that are more open. But so many still have not come around. No they are not prudes or anything like that. They have principles and won't let anyone or anything change their mind.
I am more accepting of this, then so many people i know. Who am i too judge.

It has less to do with principles and more to do with ignorance. Marriage didn't enter the purview of the Church until the 12th Century, and wasn't a requirement for marriage until the 16th. The early church itself sanctioned same-sex unions and even had its own office devoted to that purpose.

The Bible's supposed support of heterosexual marriage is not mutually exclusive. The Bible doesn't deal with many cases of minorities, because 1) They were unknown at the time and 2) The Bible is directed to the majority. 90% of humanity is heterosexual, so of course the Bible is going to mention Man/Woman unions.

No they haven't, the hierarchy has blamed everybody else but refuses to take personal responsibility.

Dolan is not the front runner

According to the John Jay report, this is incorrect. They were mostly situational molestors, not homosexual males.

"The researchers conclude that there is no causative relationship between either celibacy or homosexuality and the sexual victimization of children in the Church. Therefore, being celibate or being gay did not increase the risk of violating children. So, blaming the clergy abuse crisis in the Catholic Church on gay men or celibacy is unfounded"
