We had a thread on this several weeks ago. There were extenuating circumstances (prior record) which required her under FL law to serve a minimum 20 yr. sentence.

Another reason to kill those. Fl is a crazy state though.
We don't know the facts of this case, so making a judgment isn't easy just from reading a news report. But it seems to me this was a woman who was "overcharged" and punished by a law promoted and approved by the state legislature and governor which prohibited judges from using discretion. I'm supposing an appeal will allege "cruel" and "unusual" punishment.
There are rapists who do less time than that. This is absolutely god damn ridiculous!
The people need to forcefully take control of the prison and release her. It is clear the people of Florida can no longer trust the court system or our insane governor.
I believe she was sentenced under the 10, 20, life rule wher if you fire a gun you get 20 years automatically. If she would have shot the man who she felt she was attacking, she probably would have been able to use the SYG law. I guess this goes to show you that if you fire a gun you better kill or maim someone instead of being merciful and letting them live.
I feel so horrible for her children, especially the baby she had with the man she fired the warning shot for as she has not seen the baby since it was a few days old.
Minimum sentencing laws - another great idea from the "Tough on Crime" crowd. Another successful initiative from Jeb Bush.
